Review - The Woodlands Waterway Marriott and Convention Center
This review is based on my most recent stay at the Waterway Marriott. I have spent 6 to 10 nights a year at this property each of the past 7 years, however, this review is based on my most recent stay in May 2016. It is located within a close walk of the second busiest concert venue in the country (Cynthia Mitchell Woods Pavilion). Restaurant selections are aplenty, all in close walking proximity, and nearby shopping opportunities are fantastic (Market Street and The Woodlands Mall).
Bar staff – Sarah, Robert, and Marissa. "Bar" none, no pun intended, this is the best bar team I have come across in my years of travel. They know you by name, and despite there being over a hundred of us, they also know our drinks by heart. Wow!!! My clients feel special and well taken care of as a result of this remarkable personal effort by the team.
Front Desk Staff – Ling Ling is the consummate professional. She has the most pleasant disposition of anyone you ever met, and you just know you are going to enjoy your stay from the moment she greets you with her smile.
Bell staff – They couldn’t have been more helpful. Greeting you by name, attentive to your bags, attentively awaiting while you check in, and quickly escorting you and your bags to your room, they unload your bags while making sure you have what you need to get settled in.
The Spa – the hotel has a fantastic full-service spa. The wonderful scents hit you when you walk through the front door of the hotel, and you simply cannot wait to book a massage.
Ballroom staff – Meals are served on time and with a professional touch. The quality of the banquet food is exceptionally good. While serving hundreds at a time, this professional team still manages to have a warm filet and potato hit the table, whether you are served first or last.
Concierge Lounge – This lounge can be crowded on occasion, but the staff always puts out a great spread. In fact, they go out of their way to give you a unique taste or two for breakfast. On this stay, we really enjoyed the baked stuffed green peppers with eggs and cheese.
Changes to Bar Menu- For years we’ve enjoyed the pulled pork and the chopped salads as our perennial favorites for mid-afternoon snacks or late night treats. The new menu seems to have eliminated all our old favorites, and replaced them with uninteresting fare.
Valet Parking Staff – Not truly a con, however, the valet staff was all new for our stay this year. In years prior, the staff had been consistent from year, and worked hard to get to know the guests. They jovially connected with everyone, and got to know each of us on a first name basis. As soon we pulled in for a new stay, it was as though we had never been gone and were coming home. Regrettably, some of the best of this crew moved to the new Westin a few blocks down the street. The new staff was not nearly as amiable or personal as those in years past.
Décor – while fantastic in design, the lobby in particular, the carpets and wall-coverings are beginning to show some wear on the guest floors.
In conclusion, I highly recommend The Woodlands Waterway Marriott and Convention Center to all my fellow Marriott Rewards Insiders without reservation. It’s a fantastic property whether you are in town on business, or you are simply looking for a place to relax on the weekend.
