Hi tropicalfever and welcome to Insiders! There is lots of good shopping in the Northern VA area and many areas are easily accessible via Metro. The Tyson's Corner area has two large shopping malls and a Metro stop.
Another large shopping mall nearby to Rosslyn and also accessible by Metro is the Pentagon City Mall.
National Harbour which is across the Potomac River from Alexandria has lots of Outlet Stores, Restaurants, and other attractions. You will need to have access to a car to get to National Harbour.
Hope this helps! Enjoy your visit!

Favorite Washington DC Restaurants?
More broadly, the nightlife options have really expanded/shifted over the years - DC has become an increasingly vibrant arts (music, theater) destination... But, if you're more interested in the happy hour/bar options, there have been new pockets rising up to rival the classics (such as Georgetown and Adams Morgan), including:
Look forward to this discussion given I am staying at Keybridge Marriott at the end of the month,.
Hi, I live in Falls Church about a mile from the Arlington line so I can answer many questions about this area.
To be honest, local shopping here is not much different than most other major cities but our nicest concentration of shopping would be the Tysons Corner area. There is a huge mall called Tysons Corner Center with a Macys, Bloomingdales, .Nordstrom, and about 200 additional stores. Nearby is Tysons Galleria which is more upscale and all stores are very quiet. The Galleria does have a nice collection of restaurants.
The DC area is a great place to go for dining. One of my favorites is Zaytinya in DC, specializing in middle eastern Mezzes.
We have many excellent Vietnamese restaurants, including Present, The Four Sisters, Rice Paper, and so many more all over the Falls Church and Fairfax area. There is also a wonderful Vietnamese mall in Falls Church, called Eden, with more than a dozen dining choices.
On the other hand, if you live in (or often travel to) a major Northeastern US city, don't bother looking for a decent Italian restaurant of Jewish Deli!
A delightful French country inn in Great Falls is L'Auberge Chez Francois
Be sure to check out the U street corridor of DC
Tom Seitzma, of the Washington Post, is an excellent restaurant critic and many of his favorites can be found at
The Clarendon area of Arlington has many good choices. My favorite is Rays the Steaks. www.raysthesteaks.com You will not find a better steak anywhere without paying a LOT more
