Discount Special Rates ...Value or Deception?

Hello everyone.

When you book on MR website, do you usually look for special rates and if so, how many variables do you try? For example, I am eligible for Government Rate, AAA/CAA and a corporate rate and I find that they vary significantly in price and availability.

I also mention EVERY TIME upon check-in when I am asked for my discount card, it would seem a reasonable and more efficient system to verify the discount applicable and have it automatic at check-in time. Almost every desk clerk asks and they respond it is the hotel policy. Sounds more like Marriott Corporate policy. I guess I seek efficiency at check-in and it would seem reasonable that if I have my discount verified once, I should not need to do it every time and would not have to IF Marriott linked my discount automatically to my profile.

I have the VIP Athletic Rate card as well which is more of a piece of paper than a real card...there is no identification number on it and is issued BY MARRIOTT so corporate knows I am eligible as I meant the requirement for the card and subsequently the discount. This should automatically be linked to my account. PhilspecialAA
