Has anyone seen anything yet?
Nothing yet. Most often, the summer bonus (whatever they call it because it usually isn't called a MegaBonus) doesn't start until June 1 (though one year it did start May 15).
Two years ago it was the "Unexpected Bonus" even though we all expected it. Last year it was the "Summer Getaway." I'm curious to see what it will be called this year. If it looks like a MegaBonus and it quacks like a MegaBonus ...
I'm all for the May 15 -Sep. 15 time slot. Let's get this done!!
well current one ends this week and there is always a gap likely June 1 as they do three per year but we will know soon
TThe Winter megabonus usually ends on April 30th and the Summer usually begins June 1st, save once a couple of years ago when it was mid May. My money's On 1st June and like bejacob I reckon itll quack like a duck! That's no insult to Marriott, mind.
Most bloggers complain Marriotts promos are boring, the upper ends are all, "stay x nights, get y points", with the only variation at the lower end based on stays and Certs/points. As someone who's also a member of IHG, I'd be careful of wishing for anything different. When I joined IHG it was all "stay x get y points". Then they went for combo promos, do a combination of stays, get smaller points for each, but do them all and get a completion bonus. So stay 5 nights get 5k, stay 3 brands get 5k, stay 3 Saturday's get 5k, stay three times at one brand get 5k, book a B&B rate get 5k. Do the lot, get 50k bonus! Let me tell you, I filled my boots! But the next promo it was harder, 10 nights, 4 brands, 5 Saturday's, DBB etc, etc. I struggled to make it. The last 3 have been impossible and last year I only made 3 paid nights at IHG.
I like Marriotts megabonus quacker and look forward to seeing what I can do with it this summer. Somehow, I think little, I'm on a monthlong honeymoon/family trip to USA/Canada and blowing my "millionaire" combined MR and IHG point-stash. Unless Marriotts megabonus is going to allow award nights, I strongly suspect I'll be out on anything other than the lowest numbers!
well Brother Bob looks like no summer bonus. As we all said it is a mistake but I guess they plan to make it
Llike everyone here I'm surprised that Marriott isn't running a summer Promo. Like you, jerryl, I think its a mistake but I think Marriotts crunched the numbers and decided a chance it. After the summer season they will no doubt crunch the numbers again and the result of that data will decide wnether a summer bonus returns as a permanent fixture in 2016, or is reserved only for recessionary years. Oh, to live in interesting times!
Carlson Rezidor (Raddisson) just announced triple point promotion + 1,000 point credit when using their mobile app.
For what it's worth can't hurt for us to share alternatives that look like good deals (with each other and for the Community Managers).
I'm a homer for Marriott...but I can also be bought.
I just got an email from Carlson offering 20,000 bonus points for a 5+ night stay by July 31. Considering I'll be travelling all of July I might have to take advantage of that for a week.
Let's hope the Megabonus is for 2 free nights after 20-25 paid nights like in the past. The 30,000 points is just no longer valuable especially with them upgrading the level of category for the hotels. SMH
Here is the response I got from Marriott:
Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards regarding promotions.
I see you are a Platinum Premier Elite member. Thank you for your valued loyalty and continued patronage.
I apologize that Marriott Rewards is not offering a summer promotion during 2015.
Marriott constantly strives to improve its various customer service departments and programs. Therefore, please be assured that we have documented your comments for our development team to review. We truly do appreciate the comments you share.
Thank you for choosing Marriott.

I am no longer a loyal Marriott customer after this canned response and lack of promotion available. They clearly do not care about their most loyal customers. I encourage everyone else to vote with your wallets as well.
Chad S is the king of canned responses. I have yet to see an original response from him.
As a Platinum Member myself I am sickened at the fact that they would do something like this. Our Company has over 5,000 employees and we are now looking into negotiating special rates with The Hilton Properties. Not only did they decided to not offer mega bonuses but they also decided to change the categories on the majority of there properties without any improvements to them at all. Marriott I would like to let you know I will be cancelling all my upcoming reservations as well as any reservations for any of my 5000 employees.
Very Disappointed Ex Marriott customer
Cheers Rod...I understand the frustration and maybe because you expressed the problem from a persona level, it may get more attention. best wishes.
I'm kinda bummed there isn't a megabonus this summer but in my case it really won't matter much. My guess, Marriott is doing very well and simply doesn't need to offer one.
I agree, ks77.
Like any loyalty program, Marriott Rewards isn't something designed for us. It's a marketing tool to get us to stay at Marriott properties. It would appear that there is less need to generate stays this summer hence no need for a bonus. The company may lose some potential revenue as some guests move to chains that are offering bonuses, but I doubt it will make all that much difference. It would take a lot of loyal travelers jumping ship to even create a blip on the radar.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't look elsewhere. Playing the loyalty game can yield significant points/rewards/perks. Shop around or burn some points. Postpone travel until the fall MegaBonus, if you can. Don't travel this summer. Or don't change your plans at all. I doubt Marriott will notice.
Marriott wants to keep us loyal, but only as long as it continues to help the bottom line. There has been some devaluation in the program over the years, but it still works for a great many of us. Think about what the airlines have done to their loyalty programs.
In my opinion, the lack of a summer bonus is a relatively minor inconvenience. I will miss the opportunity to earn some additional points. Instead I'll have to look ahead to fall and think about how I can squeeze in a bit more travel to take advantage of the next promotion. As for my plans this summer, nothing is changing.
To me its time to move on , there is no summer program but fall is right around the corner.Marroitt will learn that it has lost business or taken a lot of hits from loyalist or it didnt matter and as a good business will correct next year
Another excellent post! I think you hit the nail on the head.
I didnt think I'd be able to take advantage of any summer promo, though had it been interesting I might have swapped my summer Roadtrip redemptions to paid stays. As it is, the lack of a summer promo has ensured that I've kept to my "blow those points" plan without getting that sinking feeling that I'm losing out on any megabonus...
So, no Summmer promo.
I am here in Edinburgh for a couple of nights and only managed it with the Plat guarantee. The hotel is fully booked, yet I'm sat in the excellent exec lounge enjoying the Chicken Tikka Masala, looking forward to the Profiteroles, and eyeing up the diminishing cheeseboard. But here's the kicker, its a 200 room establishment with a small exec lounge accommodating seating for about 30. There's 17 in here.
Free beer, free wine, free food, pleasant lounge. Completely full hotel. 17 Elites.
In the words of the inimitable Bill Clinton "It's the economy, stupid!"
Elites aren't driving occupation rates in this recovering economy, the recovering economy is! Marriott feels no need to bribe us, and right now, here in the Edinburgh Marriott, it's easy to see why Marriot feels that way!
That's what many of us were guessing. Marriott is doing well, and that's a good thing. Maybe a few less upgrades and some more crowded lounges but if the company is healthy they will continue expanding, upgrading current properties, starting new brands, etc. At least that is my take, I could be wrong.
I'M not sure about cutting back my points promos, but if the recovery means more hotels, especially Autographs which I love, unique hotels with Marriott standards of cleanliness and service, and points too, then maybe I'll take the loss of summer bonuses as a good swap for more options and greater coverage to earn and burn...
This is soooo written by a Marriott employee -
Oooooh, @travel'nperson... are you talking about me? Or just a badly hit reply button?
Come on,Bob, we all know you're a stooge for the Corporation...lol
I thought that was me.
If it's me, then it's you too John, Marriott needs us international stooges
EDIT... New WORLDWIDE Summer PROMO... Alas it's HILTON, but it's impressive...
I've just read an email from headforpoints.com (Raffles from Flyertalk) which is a rare beast, a pointslut English website tracking down all our best UK Credit card, hotel and airline loyalty bonuses. Hilton has just launched a 5,000 point bonus on each stay between now and July 6th AND it stacks with the current Hilton double points. So a $80 Hampton 1-nighter with points 'n points gets 7,800 HH points (worth about $40) against only 1,400 points for an equivalent FFI (worth about $14). Anyone whos got a few stays coming up over the next 2-weeks would be very well advised to switch, loyalty bonuses don't get much better than that
