Looking for an first class, romantic, somewhat secluded destination for my wife and I for our 25th. Mid-Jan to Mid-Feb 2015 would be the optimal time of year. We live on the east coast so Caribbean would minimize on the travel.
Well, your optimal time for a romantic getaway also coincides with the highest of high season in the Caribbean. If you are thinking Marriott properties, I think the US Virgin Islands (a Ritz Carlton, Frenchmans Reef Marriott or the associated Morningstar Resort) or British Virgin Islands (Scrub Island Autograph property) would be good choices. US Customs is also easy from Aruba where there is a Marriott Stellaris, Ritz Carlton or Renaissance property. The Ritz is brand new here.
If not thinking Marriott there are many other destinations. Were you thinking any island in particular?
Excellent suggestions tef6178. Without beating the BVI and Scrub Island too much it is a wonderful little spot we've been to twice with visions of returning next year.
Congrats on 25 years smitty23, looks like you will need to change your name here to smitty25!!!
happy anniversary; I think Aruba would be a great choice; there is a newly opened Ritz Carlton as well as the Marriott Hotel and Stellaris Casino both are in the area called Palm Beach and are next door to each; the end of Jan to mid Feb is a great time; there are great restaurants Barefoot in town would be a perfect dinner-on the beach; you didn't say your price range or the # of days you want to spend; hope this helps
Before you go to Aruba in Jan or Feb, you need to be aware there is a large group of students (with their families) who basically take over the Marriott hotels for 2 weeks. I've never been during that time but there is plenty of information out there to discourage me from going to Aruba that time of year.

For romantic & somewhat secluded, I would pick the Ritz in St. Thomas USVI. It is a everything a Ritz is known for. Plus, it's close to the ferry in Red Hook which you can take for day trips to St. Johns & BVIs. The beaches on St. Johns are incredible. Pack a collapsible cooler with you on your trip. Then pack it with food & beverages of your choice to take to St. Johns. You'll thank me later.
The Marriott Frenchman's Reef is very, very nice but not secluded. We just returned from a week stay at the Marriott Frenchman Cove. Also, I would not stay at the Morning Star resort. It's very dated & in need of repair. One of the couples we met last week stayed there 1 night & insisted on being moved to the Reef (which was done by Marriott).
If you try to go from USVI to BVI don't forget your Passport!!
Scrub Island put the "S" in secluded in my book!
