We are going to have a 18 hour layover in Beijing. Would like to know which Marriott is closest to Tiananmen Square. Marriott did suggest the Ritz Carlton but was hoping there is something a little lower end within walking distance.

They are opening a new hotel scheduled for March, 2014. I'm not sure when your travel will put you in Beijing. Currently, a good rate can be found at Beijing Hotels | Beijing Marriott Hotel City Wall | Hotels in Beijing, China
It's the closest Marriott to Tiananmen Square. It's very close, about 1.5 miles from the square. It's close to a metro station also.
