Whether you’ve been a hundred times or it’s still at the top of on your must-visit list, London is a city that begs to be discovered. The city is a favorite with the Insiders community, and there’s plenty of expert advice to go around. We’ve combed through the conversations to bring you some highlights, but you can also check out this compilation put together by GemPrincess.

What to See

If it’s your first time in London, there are some things you can’t miss. The Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Big Ben, London Eye, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and the city’s many museums top the list for most Insiders. Many also suggest hopping on a double-decker tour bus to make the most of your time and get oriented, or taking in the city from a cruise along the River Thames.

Mikiegfla says the Churchill War Rooms is a “must see…It was sealed shortly after VE day and…it’s exactly as it was in 1945.” Chrisf recommends the “stunning” Kensington Palace, which zukracer says can easily be paired with a trip to Harrods department store. Those traveling with kids should visit Madame Tussauds, cp7405 says. Theater fans can get great deals on tickets with a few tips from stelzer001.

London certainly isn’t small, but it’s still walk-able according to some Insiders. Both conman and profchiara have had luck with walking-tour companies. Conman’s pick caters to a variety of interests from The Beatles to architecture with walks run by “local, professional, knowledgeable and typically fun guides.” London’s parks are beautiful, and amyemilia suggests taking in Hyde Park during the spring when flowers are in bloom.

If you have a little time to get out of the city, molly416 recommends Hampton Court Palace and its garden maze, as well as Windsor Castle. For trips a bit farther our, zukracer suggests putting Stonehenge, Bath, Oxford, Cambridge and Stratford-upon-Avon on your list.
