When I was very young and just learning how to play baseball. My father really wasn't a sports fan, and the coaches were just parents. I was left-handed and the coach of the team was a normal parent, who never asked and had no idea I was left-handed. They said, put this glove on (right), and go play catch. Then going up to practice bat, they made me stand on the right side of the plate. Everything to me seemed backward, but I didn't want to make a fuss, so because I didn't start off on a good foot and I look back and wished my experience would have been better. When the coaches showed up with a bag of equipment, there was never any left handed equipment, and all instruction was to do is this way, not, "and if your left handed, do it this way". I still bat backwards.
