At one time, very long ago, you could buy a small plant of ivy for $1 at a concession stand in Wrigley Field. It was said to be the same ivy that covered the outfield wall, which did not turn green and flourish until the hot days of summer. I can no longer remember the games or the players names, but I do remember that tiny green plant. It withered and died because a young boy had better things to do than care for a plant. So too, has the team that played in front of the ivy.
