As a youth minister, one of my favorite activities each summer was taking a group to at least one Texas Rangers game. One year, I had a youth intern working for me who wanted to learn how to plan events. I assigned him the task of organizing and planning the outing to the game. We settled on a date and I left him to the job. He signed up a large group of students, arranged for the buses, got permission slips from parents......everything except purchase the tickets. About a week before the game we discovered the mistake and I hastily cancelled the trip. The game? July 28, 2004....the night Kenny Rogers pitched a perfect game for the Rangers! Almost 20 years later, I still give him grief over his miscue.
