When I was starting my teenage years in the early 1970's, those of us living in Hawaii were able to experience our own version of professional baseball. Our team was called the Hawaii Islanders and they were a minor league baseball team that was part of the Pacific Coast Leaque. The games were often broadcast over the radio and hearing my favorite player's names mentioned filled me with happiness. In 1970, the nearly impossible happened - a chance to play in the championships against the Spokane Indians. Even though they eventually lost the penant and the team was moved to Colorado in 1987 (which signaled the end of any professional baseball in Hawaii), the excitement of those times will never be forgotten.
