Juice Box Outsider

Discussion created by fwdcypher on Apr 9, 2013

Back in elementary school, I was the only Asian-American in my otherwise all-white, little league baseball team. I had unconsciously assumed there was a cultural difference, because I was raised to be more of a quiet, classical music listening studious-type and not the rowdy party-goer type. This difference was exacerbated when our team had a pizza party one day after practice, and every player was told to bring something to contribute. All of the other kids brought sodas, chips, candy, and other junk food. I, on the other hand, brought a couple packages of boxed juice drinks. When I saw what everybody else had brought, I was embarrassed and felt that my juice boxes did not belong. Therefore, I hid my drinks and instead apologized, saying I had forgotten my contribution at home.
