Baseball in film musicals

Discussion created by formalhall on Apr 9, 2013

Being born in Australia my first experience of baseball was through film, most notably the great MGM musical 'take me out to the ball game', which starred Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. It was directed by Busby Berkeley, so it featured a lot a great choreography and dance numbers, as well as great baseball scenes. It was set in the 1900s, so it was a nostalgic film even when it was released in 1949, let alone when I first saw it in the 1990s. Since then I've seen other baseball films like field of dreams; it seems the sport is uniquely well suited to being represented in film.
