1989 World Series

I remember having just sat down at Candlestick Park a few min before the Loma Prieta earthquake hit on October 17th, 1989. It was my Dad’s birthday and we had always celebrated by doing something together. This year it was the World Series with our two local teams playing. I was amazed by the power and speed of Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco while my dad was a die hard Giants fan. We had been so excited to see the game, one of our first baseball games together. At the time, the earthquake seemed like the end of the world, but in hindsight we still had a great time tailgating, walking into the stadium and feeling the energy of the World Series. Sometimes America’s Pastime is just as great even when the game is postponed. ss
