I never have been very good at baseball but like most kids I played in little league. The most memorable season was actually the worst season by most standards since we didn't win a single game. However our coach let us play positions all over the field including pitcher. One game we got to use wooden bats just like the pros and on another occasion the only girl on the team played pitcher and proceeded to strike out several boys on the other team, the ulitmate insult to young boys. We never won a game but we had a lot of fun and those memories help reinforce the romanticism of the game of baseball as a great American summer pastime.
