We just spent 4 nights at this Category 6 hotel-2 nights on the way to Maui and 2 nights on the way home. We checked in after midnight on both occasions and were warmly welcomed as loyal members each time. Huge bowls of salt water taffy, mini tootsie rolls, and Nesco mints were set out on the counter. Our room faced the city for our first stay and faced San Diego Bay/PETCO Park for our second stay. I felt like I was sitting in the right field bleachers we were so close to the ball park. Both rooms had plenty of room including a nice lounge chair. The safe was in the closet and was large enough to hold a small child . The refrigerator was located in a drawer in the console that housed the flat screen television. The bathroom was small with a beautiful tile floor and had lots of Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy products. The towels were large and high quality with one tied with twine hanging on a hook near the tub. Two bathrobes hanging in the closet were available for use.
A roof top bar, Altitude Skylounge, offers a beautiful view of the city.
The hotel is located on the edge of the Gaslamp Quarter and is convenient to just about everything in the city. It is adjacent to PETCO Park, 2 blocks from the Convention Center, and within a block of the trolley ($5 all day pass takes you to most parts of the city). We decided to take a taxi to the zoo to save time and it cost about $15 including tip. We took the trolley to the Navy Harbor to go on a whale watching trip.
The concierge lounge is open on Saturday and Sunday morning from 7 AM to 10 AM for self-service breakfast pastries. Donuts, cereal, and instant oatmeal (you add the hot water) were provided. The lounge is not staffed on the week-ends. It is open from 6:30 AM to 9 AM during the week for continental breakfast and from 5:30 PM to 10 PM for hors d'oeuvres and spirits and desserts and cordials from Sunday thru Thursday. The view of PETCO Park and the San Diego Bay is beautiful.
We will stay at this hotel in the future when we are in the area.
