Let the Good Times Roll: Where to Celebrate Birthdays, Anniversaries and More

Discussion created by communitymanagers on Jul 5, 2012

Milestones—from birthdays to graduations—were meant to be celebrated, and while cake and a card are nice, nothing says “you’re special” like a getaway.

Beach destinations are big on romance, with Hawaii and the Caribbean favorites among Insiders. The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua in Maui is the “favorite all-time resort” of shoeman1000, who has written many posts praising the championship golf courses, service, restaurants, spa and grounds, calling it “a gorgeous setting for a romantic interlude.” For a “middle priced” option in Hawaii, wrldtrvlr likes the Kaua’i Marriott Resort for “its great golf courses” and “fantastic beach and pool.” In the Caribbean, tymetravler heads to the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, while mojoho prefers Curacao for its beaches, culture and the historic city of Willemstad.

As many Insiders have discovered, desert destinations have plenty to offer, too. Curiousone and his wife spend their birthdays at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort in Phoenix, and pingreeman celebrated his 19th wedding anniversary with his wife at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa. To combine a bit of beach time with desert adventure, eltrain13 recommends the Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa; after a few days soaking in the restorative waters of the Dead Sea, head to Wadi Rum and the ancient city of Petra.

Nothing says celebration like a big city, where everything from major museums to buzzing nightlife is usually just a walk away. In Europe, the Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora “is a truly romantic experience,” according to profchiara, who loves the service and breakfast overlooking the city. The London Marriott Hotel County Hall also offers great views and a central location, according to carrymybag, as does the Copenhagen Marriott Hotel, which gets a vote from hhb_dk. Daytripperette loved Nice and Cannes, where you can enjoy warm weather, beaches, medieval villages and more. If you’re looking to get away with the girls (or the guys), docgrant recommends the South Beach Marriott, “within walking distance to [the] incredible nightlife.”
