Agree! We are essentially being charged for air...
Agree with you doc and worse it tends to be free at the less expensive hotels. It is just another revenue enhancement
For Air? You think it costs nothing to provide internet to hundreds of people?
Although I agree that the internet should be robust and should be included with the room, comments like it is "charging for air" don't really make any sense. Marriott doesn't share their internet bills, nor should they, but the networks, hotspots, security software, and bandwidth are not a trivial expense. Enough guests use it that it should be included (and not in a "resort fee" either.
As a Gold/Plat it is always free.
No, you are not "paying for air", you are paying for the infrastructure that Marriott keeps and maintains in each property. I understand that they want/need to charge for it. Do I think $15+ is pretty freaking high for 1 day of internet? Yes.
well said nipper . To some extent, though, the same could be said for the checked bag fees that many airlines charge now.... thankfully, on the rare occasions I fly, I tend to pack light, but I have seen some of the sizable bags that get packed, so I don't care as much about those fees as I used to - they sort of make sense now; and I agree, as platinum for me it's a moot point.
