When it comes to deciding where I visit I find myself checking what hotel brands are available.
The availability of a Marriott property is a major consideration for me when planning most trips. Once I reach Lifetime Pltinum this will be less of a concern since I will not need to make my 75 nights credit each year.
I feel comfortable when I stay at a Marriott property. It is a familiar feeling with good hospitality. So yes, I do look for availability and sometimes, it is a bit less of a trip when I can't find one with rooms.
More of then than not we normally pick the destination based upon the "we wanna be there" fact then figure out if any Marriott/SPG places exist.
Always choose destinations with Marriott properties if I can---I often use their "Browse" and drop down menus to help me choose properties I have even been flexible and changed dates of travel for personal trips if my first choice was not available for given dates!
I pick the destination, then look for available Marriotts. If there are no Marriotts (which hasn't happened yet), I'd now check for SPGs. If a hotel brand I want isn't available, I'm not changing my destination because of that - there would have to be zero options available before that'd happen.
