I will say the Go Board, because I don't usually hang out in hotels. I'm there to sleep and shower and transition from one activity (outside of the hotel) to another. When I do hang out in the lobby, it's usually not for very long, and I like an atmosphere that is comfortable and relaxed, not busy. I will say that I recently stayed at a Courtyard that had the make-over, and while the bistro and media pods were kind of cool, they're not my cup of tea or something I would partake in. My favorite Courtyard in Meridian/Boise West, has the more classical decor: A very large lobby sitting area with fireplace and a number of sitting spaces with comfortable and more traditional sofas and club chairs, carpeted, almost like a full service Marriott, but not quite as fancy. The breakfast area has the comfort and feel of more traditional dining, with full sized comfortable club chairs and such, and is full service. The next time I stay there, if I find that they have made over the lobby into the modern bistro/media pod thing, I will be seriously bummed.
I would like to update my answer. I like nothing about the new CY lobbies.
That needs to be an option, seriously.
Last week had my best CY experience yet, Kansas City South, Mo! The staff was great and I was really glad I stayed there. Other great CY experiences have been Rockford, Illinois, and St. Louis, downtown. Posted about my experience last week with picture. These guy's at KC, MO South were really schooled on good service and Marriott properties in the World!
ok, I got it figured out...joined, voted, etc. I do like the touch screen in the lobby for local information, but I voted for the bistro. I prefer that to the old style buffet where other people have picked over the food.
Saw you just got in! I am not really sure how I did it, but congratulations. I do not eat at buffets for the reasons you mentioned, plus when I see how much some people try to eat, I think of "Death row executions and last meals", not how I want to enjoy a croissant with butter and jelly.
This is a gag question, right? There's NOTHING I like about the CY lobbies. Green & orange (who though that was attractive?) McDonald's with beds. This is a big reason I'm moving more of my stays to full Marriotts or Rens. Sure, the new CY look may be "hip" and "trendy", but there's nothing that will look dated and pathetic faster than hip & trendy.
I know several are not fans of the Courtyard's new lobbies, but I am okay with the look--modern, clean, comfortable, and consistent. I picked the media pods because I think the best thing about the lobby is the variety of seating--two top tables, media pods for more privacy or a large communal table. I was at a Courtyard for a business event and the variety of seating (plus Wi-Fi and abundance of power outlets) was definitely a plus.
Actually, CY's have become my least favorite class of Marriott properties of late as they seem to be the most utterly indifferent about Marriott's most loyal patrons. I have and will continue to pay more for a full service Marriott across the street from a CY for either business or personal travel. Loyalty runs both ways.
Agreeing with most others on this board. I won't stay at a CY either.... prior to my own personal boycott of CY, I stayed 30 to fifty nights a year at CY.
Now down to ZERO.
This comment is about why I no longer stay at CY. My wife and I travel on an average of 6 months a year and are Platinum Premier members and have the option of any hotel chain. We prefer Marriot brands with one important exception. The Courtyard brand......We as a rule use to book the CY when traveling, than the CY brand chose to change to a Bistro and eliminated breakfast and coffee for its Rewards members. I believe whoever the marketing genius is that came up with this should be fired! Now when booking I am splitting time between other Marriott brands and Hilton Garden suites. Hilton Garden suites is the most comparable to what Court Yard was. To add insult to injury I now have to pay for Hi Speed Internet service, am I back in the 90s?
I am with you on this issue. I am lifetime Platinum with Marriott. For years I stayed at Courtyard properties up and down the east coast. Since some (incompetent) genius decided to turn CY into bistro/starbutts, I no longer will stay at a CY. It's been about 3 years now and have opted to stay at Windham properties near CY. Windham/Wingate really wants your business.
How bad has CY become? When you do a search for Marriott properties in virtually ANY city, CY comes in as the cheapest. I believe Marriott has lost a significant amount of revenue to all other brands since they implemented bistros and no breakfast.
Simple: The fact that another hotel is near by that doesn't have a bistro and starbutts.
I wish I could vote for all of them. The whole new redesign of the Courtyards in the past 5 years is amazing and resourceful.
