Hotel Review: W Hoboken

Blog Post created by xl12345 on Jun 19, 2018

As the Marriott-SPG program merging is happening in August, I decided to try this SPG property out because of its good reviews on the SPG website. Even though I am living in NYC, and this hotel is less than one hour away from home, I think it is good for a weekend leisure time with my girlfriend.

Start with the SPG platinum benefits (matched from Marriott), checked in on a Friday and checked out on Sunday:

Upgrade: Basic Cozy Room to a Fantastic Suite.

Breakfast: daily buffet at Halifax, served from 7:30 to around 10 am. Not much selection, but above a continental.

Late check-out: 4:00 pm confirmed at check-in.

Hotel Location:

Less than 10 minutes away from the PATH station, and less than a half hour ride to midtown or downtown by train. There is also a ferry from Hoboken terminal to the world trade center, which was quite interesting and it was my first time.

The hotel itself is located by the Hudson River, which gives the best part of the room: the view.

The Room:

The Fantastic Suite has sperate living room and bedroom, 1 + 1/2 bathroom, and a BALCONY!

Large windows in the living room:

There is no swimming pool in this hotel, which is one of the downsides. An OK sized fitness room is located on the 2A floor. Free bottled water is available aside from the fitness equipment. It was always empty during my visit. Forgot to mention that there are residential units within the same building ( located on the top floors), and I believe the fitness is shared by the residents and hotel guests.

There is a Nespresso machine in the living room and mini bar in the bedroom (things from the mini bar was quite expensive).

There are several good restaurants within a few blocks distance. For dinners, my girlfriend and I tried Cuban food and Italian seafood ( named Tutta Pesca Resturant & Fresh Fish Market, their seafood is very fresh, as they sell fish on the first floor). Both restaurants are very good, and the price is a bit cheaper than Manhattan.

After dinner, people can walk along the Hudson River with the stunning Manhattan view. On the day of check-out, we saw the Norwegian Cruise depart from New York to Bermuda.

The cleanliness of the room needs to be improved. Carpet around room corners was not totally cleaned. The room has a dated feel due to the usage signs of the furniture. The worst of it, my girlfriend saw a little cockroach in the bathroom...

It was a good stay, even though all my friends cannot believe that I had a vacation in a place only 40 minutes from home. The cleanliness issue was quite bothering, however, the view from the room made me start my first hotel review. This stay gave me the motivation to take out my camera, which has been sitting in the drawer for more than half year.
