Hotel Review:  Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria (VA)

Last weekend eclektech and I attended a fan event that was being held at the Sheraton Suites in Old Town Alexandria.  I’m not a big fan of Sheraton properties as most of the ones I’ve experienced are not up to the same standards of other Marriott full service hotels but my pal starguy assured me that this was one of the better run Sheraton properties.

Parking at this hotel is expensive ($34 a day).  Fortunately, I was able to book a AAA rate which included parking.  Location in Old Town Alexandria is good.  There are several restaurants in walking distance and a Harris Teeter grocery store next door.

All rooms at this hotel are small suites.  Our room did include a small refrigerator and microwave.  Some of the wooden furniture was a little worn but the room was clean and comfortable.  The thermostat was out of calibration (showing a much lower room temp) but the airflow in the room was good.  The door latch was very loose and in need of repair.

The hotel does have a Club Level which we were upgraded to.  It was nice because we shared the same floor as the celebrities attending the event and would see them often in the hallway and elevator.  The Club Lounge is open on weekends with both morning and evening offerings.   We found the lounge to be on the small side and had minimal offerings.   There was bottled water available in the lounge and a fountain soda machine which was out of order.

Overall, I would rank this hotel a 3 on a scale of 1-5.  If I had a need to stay specifically in Alexandria again or was unable to get a good price on a hotel in the Crystal City area, then I would consider a return visit.
