After spending a couple of nights at the Marquis in Times Square, eclektech and I headed for New Jersey to visit a friend and checked into the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel for a one night stay.

We found this particular Renaissance hotel was not quite up to the normal standards that we have experienced at other Renaissance properties.  Just outside the entrance to the hotel is some patio furniture which has become a smoker’s hot spot. I found that really odd being so close to the entrance.   The lobby was nicely decorated and the staff was also friendly. However we found the hallways were rather drab and some items in our room were in need of repair or replacing.

Our 10th Floor room was clean but also on the small side.  The bathroom was very cramped and had no counter space. We did had a nice view of the NYC skyline.  There was evidence that there had been a ceiling leak in the room as their were still signs of damage to the ceiling.  One of the lamp shades also had water stains on it.

The lounge was open for breakfast on the weekend only.  We found the layout of the food offerings to be poor as it was in such a cramped space that it was difficult to serve yourself if there were more than two people at the counter.

Overall on a scale of 1-5, I would rate this hotel a 2.  If I ever had to stay in the Newark area again I would explore other options first.

This hotel is my go to hotel when staying in Manhattan.   Yes it’s located in the middle of chaotic Times Square but it is within walking distance of so many great attractions including theaters and restaurants.  The rooms at this hotel are also quite spacious by NYC standards.

For those who have never stayed at this hotel, the Main Hotel Lobby is located on the 8th Floor along with the Gift shop and a few other retail outlets.  eclektech and I were quickly checked in through the Elite Counter and off to our Room on the 43rd floor.

As with our previous stays we were happy that we had plenty of room to stretch out.  The room was clean, well maintained, and also quiet. A few times in the past we were given rooms with views of Times Square but on this stay we had a side view of the city.

The lounge at this hotel is located on the 30th floor and is often very crowded. The hotel does an excellent job at enforcing the member plus one policy.  At check in guests are provided with two key cards but only one of them which is a different color will give you lounge access. The lounge attendants also make sure that only one person accompanies each guest.

During our stay we attended a performance of The Boys in The Band at the Booth Theatre located just outside the hotel.  After the show some of the celebrity cast members came out and signed autographs.

Also during our stay we got take in a couple of our favorite local dining spots Joe Allen & Bond 45.
