As some of you know eclektech and I enjoy traveling around to miscellaneous Sci Fi or Comic Con Conventions.  One reason I enjoy going to these events is gives us a chance to travel to places that we would normally not travel to such as Austin, Kansas City, and now Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake Comic Con (SLCC), now in its third year, has grown to be one of the largest Sci Fi conventions in the US.  This year the attendance was over 120,000 and featured over 30 celebrity guests.  SLCC is held each year at the Salt Lake Palace Convention Center in Downtown Salt Lake.

Conveniently across the street from the convention center is the Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek which is where we stayed at during this trip.

Our guest room although a little outdated was clean and comfortable.  The lobby appeared to have been recently renovated so hopefully they will continue to renovate the guest rooms.  This hotel is in the perfect location for visiting downtown Salt Lake City.  Next door to the hotel is a large mall called City Creek and there are many restaurants in walking distance in addition to a nice upscale grocery store called Harmons.   The hotel restaurant was also very good and got into the Comic Con spirit by offering a special "Super Hero Menu" for attendees.

Salt Lake City has a great Light rail service called TRAX which we were able to ride to and from the Airport to Downtown Salt Lake for $5 round trip.  Since we were in walking distance of everything there was no need for a rental car.  During our stay we also had perfect weather.  It was mid 80’s each day with low humidity.

One of the biggest highlights for me was getting to meet Chris Evans who is best known for his portrayal of Captain America in the recent Marvel Movies.   This was his first time making an appearance at a convention that had involved so much fan interaction.  Although I have met many celebrities from attending these types of events I never imagined having the opportunity to meet someone of his caliber.  Below are some more pics from our trip…I hope you enjoy!
