The Saint Autograph Hotel New Orleans

Let me start by saying I am a Marriott Platinum Premium Lifetime member. I travel a lot for work and pleasure. I have stayed in many cities and many different hotels but I try mostly to stay in Marriott brand hotels.

After reading the reviews I decided to take a chance and stay at The Saint in New Orleans. I have never stayed at a Marriott autograph hotel before and based on the experience I had at this hotel, will never stay at any autograph hotel again.

Normally the reviews I read on this site and other sites are pretty accurate with both the positive and negative comments. I really don’t understand any of the positive comments about this hotel and question the antitonicity or maybe it is just that the positive reviews are from people that really have no other hotel experience.

First the short pros (not many) and cons of this hotel:



  • Location is close to everything but then again, so are so many of the other hotels in New Orleans so not much of a pro to be honest.
  • The doormen are extremely attentive, fun and the one bright spot for this hotel.




  • Impersonal check in. They did not recognize my status, they were extremely impersonal and they made mistakes as to what I am entitled to as a Platinum member.
  • The bed is by far the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in.
  • Room is small, old and not comfortable at all and dirty.
  • TV did not work properly with a red hue on every station making it hard to watch anything.
  • No hot water the last three days of my trip.
  • No housekeeping service two of the days of my trip.
  • No coffee maker or refrigerator.
  • Extremely thin walls where you hear everything your neighbor is doing and saying.
  • Every employee I encountered other than the doormen and the bartenders were just so impersonal, sometimes rude and had no knowledge of Marriot rules.



It started at check-in where the person who checked me in could not be more impersonal. She did not recognize my status, assigned me probably one of the worst rooms (although I doubt any room is much better) despite my status and was uninformed about what a Platinum member is entitled to. I will be contacting Marriott for my guarantee compensation since I was not offered a welcome gift. I questioned two different people about it and they said the breakfast is all that they offer but according to the Marriott rules, both a breakfast and a welcome gift are required for a Platinum member and compensation of $100 is required if not offered. I will be contacting Marriott about this.


As mentioned above, the bed is the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. I have been traveling for over 30 years and Marriott beds are usually the best. This bed was worse than a Days Inn bed. Good luck getting any sleep in this bed. Then to top it off the walls are paper thin and you hear your neighbors. Everything they say or do you hear including coughing all night, phone calls etc..


With regard to the breakfast, as a Platinum member when there is no lounge, they have to provide breakfast coupons which they did for the Tempt restaurant. Sounds great right? Well when we went to use these, we were told that it was limited as to which menu items we could get (and we could not get the breakfast buffet). I was fine with this since one of the options was just eggs and toast. However, we were told that coffee is not included! Not to mention orange juice is not included. In other words, no beverages are included. Wait, so your telling me I get breakfast but no coffee and would have to pay for coffee and orange juice??? Yup. Service was the absolute worse despite the fact the restaurant was NEVER busy. On the last day, we were given our eggs but the toast did not come until after we were done eating the eggs and the waiter actually brought out the English muffin un-toasted (yup just raw).


On the second day there was no housekeeping service done so I just called for extra towels. On the third day and for the rest of my trip, there was no hot water just semi warm water available. As mentioned the TV had a constant red hue making it hard to watch anything. There is no coffee maker or refrigerator in the room.  Overall this is one of the worst rooms I have every stayed at. The carpet is old and dirty. The bed has no box spring and the headboard is just … dirty. They tried to upgrade the bathroom with a stand-up shower which would be great except no hot water and no water pressure and the bathroom is small.


As many reviews mentioned, the bar has a good atmosphere. On the recommendation of the reviews we decided to see the burlesque show on Friday night. I looked up the on the web site and it indicated that you could reserve a table for $20 so I reserved a table. When we received the bill after the show we were charged $25 PER PERSON not per table (table for two). No one ever mentioned this and nowhere on their site does it say this. This show while cute, but certainly was not worth $25 PER PERSON to sit in a chair in front of a table that is shared with other people. Had I known ahead of time, I would have never paid that amount on top of the overpriced drinks. Save your money and skip the show.

This was honestly the worst experience I have ever had at a Marriott hotel and it has completely turned me off to ever staying at an Autograph hotel again in the future. With all of the many hotel options in this area, I would never ever consider staying here again. I would stay at a Courtyard or Sheridan or a non-Marriott brand hotel before this hotel.
