Trip to Nola - SpringHill Stay

Blog Post created by seatexan on Jul 25, 2016

At the last min I decided to book a Thursday night in Nola.  Originally I was going to drive in REALLY early Friday morning to be at the WWII museum by 9am.  I figured it would be far less stressful to drive in after work and take my time. Downtown Nola is nice anyway and there are 4 Marriott properties located with in walking distance from the museum.

I booked at the SpringHill.  I read the reviews on TripAdvisor and was warned of club noise and roof leaks.   One review said that one of the rooms ceilings on the 4th floor had fallen! ops!

I called the hotel and asked how the roof project was going and I was told it was close to being done.  I also asked about the noise and Demario said he would put me in a room away from all the clubbing.  I love clubbing, but not when I have to be up early!

I got there around 7:40ish pm.  The valet guys were awesome! The front desk was AWESOME.  Seriously, every one was happy, chipper, all had smiles and VERY welcoming. Even housekeeping!

They made me feel like I was a valued member!   How sweet was this note???  <3

The hotel itself is in some serious need of TLC. This is going to be taken care of as renovations will start some time soon. I was told next year around this time they should be complete. The roof did just get replaced. The room I was in looked like it did have some issues with water before the roof replacement. I swear this was the room where the ceiling fell! hahaha!  And this is only PART of the patch job.

It POURED like mad when I was there Friday afternoon and not one leek!

My room was worn, but very clean. The bed was comfortable and I slept well.  No allergy issues!

Tired pool - but it had been storming.

Rather large 4th floor elevator foyer.

Breakfast Friday morning was a total zoo.  I got there early, just in time.  The eggs and yogurt were good.  The coffee tasted burnt.  But! Starbucks was just a block away in the regular Marriott hotel.  Saved the day!  I really think non guest were coming in and eating the breakfast.  No idea how this would be regulated.

Despite the tired furniture, finishes, and fixtures, I enjoyed my stay.  After the renovation, I will be back to check it out.

Attitude makes a huge difference.  I stayed at the JW Nola the night after this and well.... that is a whole other story.
