At the last minute, we decided to go watch our Houston Rockets at the Kirby Ice House in Houston! It’s a combination indoor / outdoor setup with lots of tables, chairs, big screen TVs and Adirondack chairs in beach sand with full bar service. It also always has an array of food trucks parked nearby with interesting and delicious food.
We arranged a quick reservation for Saturday night at the full service category 4 Marriott Galleria... that’s right - full-service category 4. Price for the room was a whopping $104 for the evening. I checked in online, asked for an upgrade and was immediately assured they would take care of us. Indeed they did!
The hotel only has 2 suites, but they did provide an oversized, top-floor room, with balloons and a welcome amenity! I was very impressed! The nice welcome note from Ivy at the front desk was a warm touch, and the chocolate-covered strawberries were delicious. The Perrier and bottled waters were in the fridge, but I put them out to show my friend brianandlin . See, here is an example of good old fashioned Marriott hospitality! All at $104 for the night!
The concierge lounge is open all weekend for complimentary beverages and snacks, and they will comp you breakfast in the restaurant downstairs because they aren’t serving in the lounge.
We caught rain at the icehouse around half time, so we headed over to some friends’ home to ride out the storm. Once it cleared, we sat on their patio for bourbon, cigars and bad basketball. Unfortunately, the Rockets shooting went stone cold in the second half. Ugh!
We arranged for a late checkout the next day, but didn’t use it. I can heartily recommend this property for anyone needing a last minute stay in downtown Houston.
