Review - Sheraton Suites Old Town

Blog Post created by msannmcd on May 2, 2019

I was unable to obtain a room in the district at corporate rate so ended up over in Old Town. Oddly, the week before I had dinner at Hanks Pasta Bar across the street (highly recommended!). There was a free shuttle from DCA to the hotel which is why I selected this over other Old Town options.

I’m a Marriotteer as opposed to SPGer so it’s a mishmash of good and not so good I guess. First, the property is a bit tired but in the middle of a restoration. Joe the shuttle driver dropped me off and assisted with luggage. The check in gal told me she put me on the 6th floor to avoid the renovation noises on the 8th and 9th floor. Check in was fast but I wasn’t thanked for being Titanium. Not really an issue. She did tell me the lounge hours and what floor it was on however.

The room was a nice layout. No photo’s since the web site ones are accurate. Room had a living work area with microwave, fridge, coffee maker and sink. French doors to the king bedroom. Pocket door from bedroom to bath and full door separating bath from living room. I liked it better than Residence Inn. There is a Harris Teeter next door and a Trader Joe’s down the street. Also, there’s a nice riverside park down the street as well. No problems for this gal walking in daylight hours. In addition to Hanks are a few other off site dining options. I didn't use the lobby bar or restaurant.

They sent up a nice half bottle of Mondavi Cab Sauv and a cheese platter. Unexpected but very nice! The lounge was small but provided a hot item (meatballs), cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, hot coffee and tea, bottled water. I asked the lounge attendant if it was going to be renovated and she said a new one was being built on the second floor. Good to know! I saw the work going on on the 9th floor so it looks like all the rooms are being refreshed as well.

Room was quiet but at 6 AM the planes were leaving DCA and it was noticeable. It didn’t bother me since I was up anyway. Breakfast in the lounge included eggs, bacon, pastry, cereal, yogurt and fruit. The morning attendant was helpful as were most folks I encountered. She suggested taking the shuttle to the airport and then taking the metro since there really isn’t a metro station in walking distance with luggage to haul. Billy the morning driver was informative and helpful too. Got to work on time!

Decent stay for one night. Might try it again after the reno is complete.
