Woa! Has it really been over 3 months since I last wrote anything at all? Well, life has been busy in these islands. Unfortunately, not a good way. Without going into too much detail, our housing situation is in limbo (we live on property owned by relatives; Hawaii is EXPENSIVE), we had to deal with a couple of storms, my car got damaged (and a new windshield was surprisingly expensive).
But now I'm back and I promise to try to be more active in the community. I know I've said this a few time before already, but I promise to try harder!
So aside from our trip to Maui that I chronicled earlier this year, we ended up having 3 staycations thus far; 1 planned, two because of housing issues. One of those unplanned staycations ended up being at the Courtyard Waikiki Beach. I was actually looking forward to this, despite the situation, as the last time I stayed at this property, it looked like this...
Today, though, the property looks like this.
That's a MASSIVE cosmetic upgrade, and the split-air unit is WAY better than the window mounted garbage they were using before. Unfortunately, this stay would be my first in a standard room. No upgrade for this lowly Gold... And the bathroom in those units are AWFUL. The placement of the a/c was also terrible, as the air would blow directly onto, and combine that with it cycling on and off to maintain temperature, I was either freezing or sweating under the comforter. The property has otherwise remained largely the same, though the valet-only parking rate has skyrocketed. It actually would have been cheaper for me to stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on a Kama'aina rate and pay the resort fee there (kama'aina get free parking) than it cost me to stay at the Courtyard. And uh, the CY Waikiki Beach still isn't on the beach!
I do have a longer review on this stay, but I've already written it on my other blog and am a little lazy to re-write it, so if you're interest in seeing the rest, please check our my sub blog Island Miler on Jeffsetter.com
