Hotel Review: Sheraton Milan Malpensa Airport Hotel & Conference Centre

Blog Post created by iahflyr on Aug 19, 2019

Background:

After a week long trip to Italy and with a mid morning flight back home we used a Category 1-5 certificate to stay at the Sheraton.  The hotel is far too convenient to the airport as the lobby doors open up right into Terminal 1 at Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP).  Terminal 1 at MXP is where the flights to the U.S. depart from so why stay anywhere else.

Check-In:

Arriving at the hotel we found a gorgeous bright lobby, beautiful designed hotel and plenty of staff around.  Having used the Mobile App to check-in the day before we arrived to a very friendly Bell staff who insisted on taking our roll-a-boards to the room, though I was able to convince them they'd be far more help to the folks coming in behind us who appeared to have their entire house with them.  We were greeted warmly at the front desk by the Associate who thanked us for being loyal Bonvoy members and gave us our keys to the room.  He reminded us to keep one key in the electricity slot (for lack of a better phrase) in order to have the a/c fun when we left the room which I had forgotten about since or other rooms on this trip did not require this type of action.  We did get upgraded from a 1 King Bed to a 1 King Bed Executive Level room which was a bonus.

Room:

The hotel structure offers a number of corridors and like the lobby has an open and airy feel to it.  Our room was on the top floor of the three floor hotel just down the hallway from the Executive Lounge, but separated by sliding glass doors for the hallway with the rooms.

The room was good sized with plenty of outlets (power converter needed for 120 volt folks), very very clean room and bathroom along with a huge couple of closets with drawers at the bottom, plush a large digital safe on one of them.  The bed and pillows were excellent and the night stands had a bottle of water on each.  The a/c was very quiet and cold and the wall above the desk had a nice sized HD TV which we did not use.

The toiletries were really good in the shampoo/conditioner department plus the add nice touch of a toothbrush and toothpaste on the counter.

Restaurant/Bar:

Il Canneto Restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner while The Monterosa Bar is open for all three meal times.  The bar area is good sized with the restaurant just past it as you walk down the corridor on the second floor which also holds most of the meeting rooms.  We did not use either the bar or restaurant during our 16 hour stay since we had access to the Executive Lounge on our floor.

Executive Lounge:

WOW, just WOW.  I know international hotels are known for having lounges that exceed most of what we have here in the U.S.A., and this joint was simply wonderful.  Spacious, plenty of seating areas and all glass with 24 hour access using your key.  They did check your room numbers when entering particularly during the dinner and breakfast times.  The attendant at the door did have to turn away a family of three since they did not qualify for lounge access and it was done in a very professional fashion.  All of the attendants were very friendly and spoke very good English.

We arrived in the lounge around 4:30 PM to check it out and found a nice assortment of Cheeses, Meats, Fruit and cold beers, soft drinks, water and of course some tasty Italian Wines.  Yes, all free of charge.

And then what the attendant called "a light snack" started at 6 PM and what a spread of Pasta Salads, Meats, Cheeses, Sandwiches, Smoked Salmon, Vegetable trays, and a few other hot items to enjoy as well as Breads and Desserts.  Of what we had everything was all freshly prepared and very very tasty.  No need for dining at the restaurant or bar, we had out own.  The lounge was probably no more than 60% full during the time we spent there meeting new friends and just having a fun time.  The attendants kept the Vino bottles coming.

After our restful nights sleep we headed into the lounge for breakfast and were greeted warmly by the attendant as well as the numerous items to enjoy like Fresh Fruit, Eggs, Breakfast Meats and Cheeses, Cereals and Oatmeal, assortment of Juices.  Perfect send off before heading into the Terminal for our flight home.

Checkout:

We did our checkout by calling the front desk since the TV did not offer a menu option to use in order to checkout and away we went.

Overall:

An excellent hotel with an equally excellent Staff.  Everyone we ran into was friendly and looking to help out.  A very modern designed place right down to the chip in the key which I'd not seen previously.

Highly recommend this property to anyone flying into/out of MXP.
