Hotel Review: The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center

Blog Post created by iahflyr on Apr 15, 2019

Background:

We got tickets to for a concert last Saturday evening at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion to see Chris Tomlin.  Chris is friend from years back who played basketball with me on The Woodlands United Methodist Church team while he was the worship leader at the church (just about the time he signed his first record contract) so whenever possible we go see him play.  Even though we live a quick 1.5 miles from the Pavilion we always make a night of it and stay at https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/houmw-the-woodlands-waterway-marriott-hotel-and-convention-center/.  The hotel is right in the middle of The Woodlands Waterway that contains many restaurants/bars, about 200 yards to the newer Westin, across the parking lot to The Woodlands Mall, across the street from movie theaters, a block or so to The Pavilion and Market Street where you find more dining spots as well as many shops.  Great location for sure.

Check-in:

We arrived at the hotel and put the vehicle in the connected parking garage right after a huge storm had raced though the far north part of the Houston area.  I had checked in via the Mobile App and noticed we had been upgraded to a King Bed room on the Concierge Level which is located on the 14th floor.  The hotel has a digital key, but we always enjoy talking with the Front Desk folks to say hello and see how they are doing since we've been a multiple repeat guest.  As usual Thomas was smiling, welcomed us, had our new black Bon Voy key ready with the Concierge Lounge hours also in the key pouch.  He said he'd already us the arrival gift points as we'd done that often on previous stays, but if we wanted the $10 credit he would make the change.......ahhhh no thank, just the points please.

Room:

We had a nice corner room away from the elevators which is preferred.  The rooms have recently been remodeled and this was quite a nice fresh new look.  Not sure some of our much loved Insider millennial kids would have liked the new decor as it had a good number of large dresser drawers!   The corner balcony room was pretty good sized with a sofa, average size HD TV, work area with plenty of outlets, barn door to the bathroom which was bright and a large walk in shower that had four different rain shower heads (ceiling, two on the wall and the normal shower head) and the normal Trann toiletry products  Across from the bathroom was a brightly lit closet with average size safe and plenty of hangers.  The bed was higher off the floor than some properties yet very comfortable with large pillows to enjoy later that evening.  The room was spotless and you could tell great care had been taken by the housekeeping folks to prepare the room for the next guest.

Our balcony door did not have a lock on it so I went back to the Front Desk on our way out for dinner to tell Thomas about the need for a lock.  Yes he commented that "only Spiderman would be able to access the balcony" to which we all laughed, yet said he would have a maintenance engineer fix it while we were out.  When we came back to the room after about 90 minutes to change clothes for the concert, sure enough the balcony door had a moving metal bar across it and a note plus a treat from Jason the Engineer.

Now that is what I'm talking about.....LOL.... a great note plus a chocolate hammer!   This is what we've come to expect from Fred D., the property GM who has been there forever.  Excellent touch, excellent.

Restaurant/Bar:

Ristorante Tuscany and Acqua Lounge are located just off the lobby down the hall from the Convention Center on the first floor.  The bar is ALWAYS hopping and today was no different.  Not the largest of areas, but what they do not have inside size wise the make up for with numerous couches, chairs and fire pit outside overlooking the Waterway.  Service is never lacking and after the concert even with the entire inside bar area filled (48 degrees and 25 mile an hour winds kept most of us Texans inside ) with wedding guests and concert attendees.  Robert and Abby did a wonderful job of keeping our glasses full while most enjoyed watching the Astros beat the Mariners.

Concierge Lounge:

Breakfast is served every day with varied times Friday and on weekends.  The usual evening food services are available Sunday-Thursday and the lounge remains open after breakfast with fruit, snacks, and soft drinks.  Our Sunday morning breakfast foods were plenty of eggs, bacon, sliced meats, salmon, fresh fruit and juices with plenty of pastry offerings to grab.  The lounge itself is fairly small yet was not crowded at all during out time there around 9 AM.

Checkout:

I normally checkout via the menu function of the TV however; I found the TV to be on the not working side after that storm the night before, so I ventured on to the Mobile App and accomplished it in no time.  We kept the key to exit the parking garage and left the key in the key drop box.  Easy, simple and within a matter of minutes we are back on our street after yet another fantastic time on our Saturday night stay-cation!

Overall:

This local property never disappoints, never.  They host some huge conventions with incredible customer service.  Can't beat the location in The Woodlands and they've even hosted Insiders own nationwide for some of his events as well as matthank when he is in town.  Come visit and enjoy.
