Off To Italy We Go, Part Four-Discovering Tuscany

It was time to wander around in Tuscany and get out among the locals, so we hopped in the car and headed north to see what we'd find.

A short 15 minute drive and we come upon the town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. A quaint little old town with some shops to check out as well as a deli we found on the main road adjacent to the opening of City Center.

L'Aia di Piero - Home was a spot that was calling so we had to pick some things from the deli and sit outside and enjoy the special place and food.

My wife spotted some Tomato halves filled with a mixture of Egg, Small Salami pieces blended with some type of Spicy Cheese that had the texture almost like a Quiche.  We wanted more so we got a plate of Farro mixed with fresh Cherry Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Basil and Olive Oil.  It was all so light and tasty, AWESOME SPOT.

We walked around the town some after eating before making our way back to Barga to look for some things to bring home. More cafe's and deli's (Prosecco calling) and then we found a little bar just outside the wall of Old Barga, between the road and a parking lot.  Of course we had to drop by for a look see!

After a quiet evening at the resort and Pizza for dinner the next day it's off to Lucca to enjoy the city inside the wall.  We decided to enter the city through the northwest entrance since that was closest to the Resort and easiest to find!   Found our parking space, walked across the street and we are in old Lucca.

In true Italian style there were deli's and cafe's all over the place, where to have lunch?

We found Chi Siamo : Cantine Bernardini Lucca - enoteca Lucca - ristorante lucca off the beaten path but almost in the center of Lucca.  The staff spoke very good English, treated us like family and happily served us a wonderful lunch of Melon and Prosciutto then Risotto seasoned with Asparagus Sauce that was out of this world.

After that lovely lunch and Vino Bianco it was time to walk around the wall some before heading back toward the Luxury Hotel in Tuscany: Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa: Home

Our last night we had dinner at the hotel at La Veranda out on the terrace overlooking Barga.  Beautiful views, amazing food, perfect service that was not rushed as you'll find throughout most of Europe.  I have no idea what the appetizer was at this point other than to say it was full of Tomatoes, Cheese, Red Onion, Farro and Basil with Olive Oil in a crispy shell....incredible flavors and fresh.  Both Pasta dishes were cooked perfectly and very different sauces.  If you visit this resort dining at least once at La Veranda is a must, right ssindc?

We have enjoyed our time in Tuscany so very much, but tomorrow morning it's off to Bologna in search of possibly finding some of Mrs. IAHFLYR's ancestors.
