What do you do when your workplace doesn’t declare a snow day and you live in the ‘burbs? You check your Marriott Reward points and you use them during snowmaggedon! Last February 9th and 10th - while in the midst of a dump of a snow of about 45cms, we decided to stay in and call the Calgary Marriott Downtown our home for 2 nights. What a wonderful and smart move it was!
Eddy was an astute professional who gave me the rundown of what I can expect with my stay in the hotel. Acknowledged that I’m a Silver Elite, talked to me about the perks (late checkout), free basic wifi, offered me the M Club Lounge access (which I agreed to -considering that am availing of 2 night free stays), but most of all -was happy to see that even though am a Calgarian I opted to stay with their property. With this property being close to the C-train tracks and proximate to both our offices -not to mention that it was close to all the entertainment and dining scene, this was a very easy choice for us!
Got the 11th floor king-sized bed with limited view. Impressed with the newly redesigned area as it is a tad bigger than usual room and liked the more spacious bathroom. Free bottled water for 2.
M Club Lounge:
Missed the first few hours of socials as we had late meetings from work. Got there on their happy hour and got chatting with Ronnel (bartender) who provided wonderful service and shared wonderful stories about his time with Marriott. Fruits, chips, mini-appies, cheese, Starbucks tea/coffee/ treats were available to us. What’s even more convenient - hot breakfast that’s not just the typical western food. Adrianna, the gal who was serving breakfast, even gifted us with chocolate treats. That was totally unexpected and a sweet touch/gesture.
Easy peasy except the folio didnt come in until after I followed up with it being sent to my email. Minor thing but still quite annoying.
