For those who don't know where Tenerife is, it is the main island of a cluster of Spanish Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, roughly off the southern coast of Morocco. These islands are nearer to Africa than to Europe. Although they are about a 4 hour flight from the U.K. this is probably the most cost effective way to get to the islands. Both Easyjet and Ryanair have many flights each day from all the main UK airports and you can fly there from as little as £40 each way.I travelled there earlier in June for my birthday and stayed at an old friend , The Sheraton La Caleta. By far the best way to get to the hotel from the airport is to hire a car. The taxi fare is about £30 to the hotel, I hired a car from a local company called Autoreisen for 62 Euros for the week with fully comprehensive insurance.
On arrival I was welcomed as an Elite returning guest ( 15th trip over the last 12 years as this was the very first Starwood hotel that I stayed in.). We arrived early, 11am, and were told that the room was not quite ready but we were given a key to access the Lounge so we could get coffee and snacks whilst we waited. Hardly had we started our drink when the receptionist arrived with the key to our suite(upgrade from a basic garden view room booked on Senior Rate), to which our luggage had already been delivered. Waiting for us was a very generous welcome indeed. The room, 101 is a large suite with a separate bedroom, a balcony with a sea view and a large sitting room.
