Travels in Germany Part 2

IFollowing my slightly upsetting stay in the beautiful city of Dresden I hopped a highly efficient German train and headed off to the city of Leipzig. There 2 cities are like chalk and cheese. Dresden is historic andeducational whereas Leipzig continues its roll as a major trading city. Most of Leipzig is modern and retail oriented. It still has some historic parts and a musical history but the city centre is dominated by department stores and shoping malls.

The hotel here also could not be more contrasting than the Westin in Dresden. The Hotel Fuerstenhof is a proper hotel. It's part of the SPG Luxury Collection and it certainly lives up to its billing. The day before I arrived I e-mailed the hotel to re-enforce my request for a room with a walk in shower, within 5 minutes I received back a reply that simply said 'Of course Mr H, we have already allocated you one as per your original request'. This hotel is the epitome of old fashioned class and style. The room was excellent, I requested a kettle and some cups, as we always travel with our own tea and coffee, five minutes later it arrived with milk and sugar as well. Breakfast was very good with a choice from the buffet or an individual cooked breakfast if requested. I can highly recommend the eggs benedict, a great way to start the day.

The hotel has a wonderful indoor pool in the basement with a steam room and sauna. The staff are friendly, helpful and very polite.

This was a very nice stay, in a nice modern city so after 3 nights its back to the station and off to Berlin. One more point to make, on the last morning I asked for a late check out as our train wasn't utill 5pm. the receptionst did not even check she just said 'Of course, it is your right'. A truely excellent hotel!
