Hello! I just logged into my Marriott account to make a reservation and I see that my status has changed from Platinum Elite to Platinum Premier but I can't find any written info on this (not talking about the new tiers post August or whenever, the current tiers). Any idea?
Also, I have until December 31, 2018 to achieve lifetime platinum to be grandfathered into Lifetime Platinum Premier, correct? I have all the nights and I'm only 64,038 points away, which I will easily hit with my travel schedule this year. I want to hit lifetime so that I don't have to deal with the "years" qualification, as I've only been a marriott rewards member for 5 years.
I don't really pay attention to all this stuff, so I apologize if I'm asking obvious questions! I tried to do research before asking!
rednumbers congratulations! Platinum Premier (current Marriott rewards program) is the unpublished level above Platinum that is normally for the top 2-3% of Platinum elites. Although we don't have anything specific about the unpublished program, it typically is achieved after 150+ nights and $15K or higher spend on Marriott. Marriott sent out a small gift at the beginning of 2018 to US based Platinum Premier Elites The Platinum Premier Elite Gift for 2018 - FYI for the Curious .
Please keep in mind that the Marriott website has been less accurate lately and it could be that the status you're seeing is something that everyone is seeing because they're tweaking the site in preparations for the new program. It is difficult to say, but if you've spent about 150+ days a year in 2017 at a Marriott and paid Marriott about $15K for that privilege, I'd say you're a Platinum Premier.
Yes, you have until 31 Dec 2018 to fulfill current program requirements for Lifetime Marriott Platinum Elite Status (750 nights + 2M Points). If you fulfill those two requirements by 31 Dec 2018, you'll be Grandfathered into the new Lifetime Platinum Premier Elite tier under the new Marriott Rewards Program.
