This was just posted on BoardingArea. While not fact, and still considered rumor, it makes a lot of sense. Thoughts?

The rumored tiers make sense to me if we don't assume that "Gold" or "Platinum" would mean what it means now. I suspect there are plenty of travelers for whom 50 nights a year is a stretch even with bonus nights - for those folks, if they know they won't hit Gold, what is the loyalty program incentive to stay at a Marriott property after you reach Silver, which admittedly has limited benefits? It is a similar argument to what heavy travelers here say about what to do once they hit Platinum - keep accruing nights at Marriott or maybe consider getting status another place.
So I could see adding in a tier between the current Silver and Gold as a plus to the more leisure traveler and maybe gear the benefit at that level to them - say start the free enhanced wi-fi or the late checkout option after 25 nights. Plat is where concierge lounge would come in, and PlatPlus the welcome gifts and room upgrade perks. I could also see each tier resulting in an increase in "bonus" points equal to the nights stayed - Silver 10%, Gold 25%, Plat - 50%, PlatPlus 75% and the new top tier maybe a promised suite/room upgrade and double points.
Well, 702rugbyref, you’ve been here long enough to know we talk about anything even remotely travel related...
Interested in the food to be found down hotel corridors, I’ve got your thread here Hotel Corridor remains. Do they make you hungry?

At least this speculative thread covers something all Insiders care about, their points and their benefits! And although it’s speculative there has been a swirl of rumours about the possibility of SPG being closed down in 1st August - I’m still calling Uncle on that one, Marriotts IT is a mess at the moment, too much work to do in too little time to join the schemes. And if the board sat in its ivory tower is too tone deaf to realise that then expect chaos on 1st August. That rumour was followed up by rumoured new elite levels at Silver 10 nights, Gold 25 nights, Plat at 50 and Plat Premier at 75 with Ambassador at 100. Sounds plausible but legacy Marriott has a lot of PPs at 125 nights so a very top level in the new scheme at 100 nights isn’t going to be able to really pull out the red carpet. Then amidst this swirl of rumours arose a real fact, Marriott is announcing something about the program next week. Which does add fuel to the fire that these rumours might actually be real leaks.
So, yes, let’s face it since here on Insiders we can carry on a conversation about hotel carpets and pens, when real changes to our points and benefits are thrown about that is really what this site membership can focus upon, so let the speculation and debate continue!
Per usual, good stuff bbob. I also enjoy reading comments by customers, mostly on the 400 replies on FlyerTalk Marriott, (which interestingly enough outnumber the FlyerTalk Starwood replies by more than 6 to 1 - perhaps the SPGers are busy changing their underwear ) anyway back to my point, I enjoy reading the comments that start off, "if Marriott was smart, they'd" - Marriott must be one heckuva lucky firm if they aren't smart .
Fire away gang, some folks make big six figure incomes guessing wrong on cable TV. I know pey can't wait to read the next guess
I am trying to understand this merger more. We just finished the Platinum Challenge (casual traveler trying to enjoy the benefits, more in other countries). I think we will have Platinum for the rest of this year and the next, then it downgrades to gold. How does this effect us? Thanks for the clarification.
I heard a rumor that a bunch of Marriott Insiders are planning to gather in the Washington DC area.
Are they upset about the upcoming changes to the MR/SPG programs?
Are they planning a massive protest of the National Mall? (40-50 Insiders is a massive protest, isn't it?)
And what's this TIPPLE thing? Sound like lots of drinking could be involved.
Getting these folks together would be like wrangling cats.

Hard to know which rumors are true these days. This one seems less plausible than most, and yet ....

I can actually very well imagine that Marriott will keep another level (Ambassador Premiere) that is on invite only. Maybe even slightly more exclusive than the current one (150 nights / top 1,5%?)

If anyone says it's not a big crowd, we'll borrow Trump's press secretary to dispute the estimates of attendance like at his inauguration. (Plus, we're right in front of their offices? Isn't that handy!?)
I really doubt that any level will get more than 50% bonus points.
Try: Silver 10% - Gold 20% - Plat 30% - PP 40% - Ambassador 50%
With my guesstimate, they will already be handing out more level bonus points than before. (New Gold wasn't there, those were included in the Silver group. New Plat was Old Gold, which was 25%, so 5% more. I believe a lot of the old Plats will reach Ambassador level, so there will be less old Plats that will miss those 10% in the new PP level than there will be old Silvers / new Golds that will appreciate the extra 10%.)
I already have my protest sign...#MarriottInsidersMatter
I am in the same boat but I think it is more of a wait and see. B/c we don't have anything solid yet on any of the new tiers or what benefits they come with.
I think due to the challenge, you and I both will have plat for 2018 and 2019. Let us hope they keep it that way. The challenge is still around. When they change that, then we might know more. But we earned it under the current rules. I would expect Marriott to honor that.

No clarification until Marriott communicates the full program details. Can't clarify anything with rumours about certain isolated aspects of the possible new program.
Probably right, got carried away with the bonus points... Your suggestion is more likely.
I have just finished Platinum Chalenge in the SPG program.
My membership card in the phone application says I'm a Platinum Preffered Guest by February 2020 ...
Here is a "if these rumors are true" post.
Main points in this post....
While not necessarily in the final version of the program some of the things reportedly discussed in building the program include
So the lounge access for 75+ makes me sad....IF this even happens! Wonder what that would mean for LTP, that no longer have to stay so many nights.
Hope these are just that, rumors b/c they are scary rumors....now where there is smoke, there is fire!
That's the trouble with rumors. They beget more rumors. I'll stick with my "wait and see" mindset. Monday is not that far away.
I still enjoy keep up with what others have to say on the matter, even if it is just speculation.
"So the lounge access for 75+ makes me sad....IF this even happens! Wonder what that would mean for LTP, that no longer have to stay so many nights. "
Sad doesn't really convey my feelings. I have been working hard on getting LTP (85,000 points to go) before program changes and if this is true I wonder why. Lack of lounge access would be a real detriment for me. Many times a suite upgrade is not a big deal but lack of lounge access would be. Maybe they'll equate LTP with Platinum 75 since that is what it was as current LTP's achieved it. Can always hope or even hope rumors are just rumors.
Yeah I don't care much about a suite upgrade but I do for lounge access.
If your guess is correct the new PP (old Platinum) will get shafted by 10% in points bonus per stay. I sure hope not.
I'm also wondering about the LT people, Gold and Platinum. Will current LTG move up to LTP and current LTP move up to LTPP? This would only seem fair, as those status levels were reached under a more strict program. Plus after years of loyalty, lowering a status seems like bad business.
Same here. I can't always make it to Platinum, so happy to be Gold and keep my CL benefit.
Plus, while on the same subject:

Why does he think business travelers don't get breakfast refunded? Travel for work = per diem or getting costs directly refunded as Out Of Pocket Expense. And I always have breakfast (most important meal of the day).
Having lounge access makes me more competitive since I can offer the free breakfast as a discount on the per diem to my client.
Well, grab yourself a beverage and dive in (I'm like you, a reader) - here's over 400 'thoughts'. My, how we work ourselves into a frenzy.
Leaked New Combined Marriott / SPG Status Tiers - FlyerTalk Forums
It'd make the most sense to revise the Lifetime scheme and have current LTG and LTP holders just change the name to reflect the same level in terms of Elite level requirements.
Just talked with Marriotts Rewards Customer service, and they said to wait for announcement on website this Friday at 4:30 p.m., but she did not know the time zone.

the main reason I stay at Marriott now is I am LTP and concierge status . if that changes so will I
