Interesting info. Thoughts?
This was good information to read and video to watch thanks verysuiteboy I hope it goes smoothly, they really need to get this right. I'd be happy to wait longer and keep up the duplicate mega bonus options.
same here. the longer the better
This is the September interview (even tho Deanna writes a 11/27 blurb to freshen it up). Skift likes to dig up old stuff (like Facebook) to promote their research projects (and the upcoming admissions for next years forum). This is where Arne calls those SPGers 'rabid'. And also where the interviewer never got to the most asked question.Arne Unlocks Your MegaBonus Tomorrow
It would certainly make sense for Sept '18 to be the target. That way '19 could be a clean start. I'm with rls, no hurry, we're just getting used to how to play the game.
It was good to hear him emphasize technology again (seems since they effectively executed the day after acquisition linkage, they've run into obstacles).
Starbucks Howard Schultz named as his successor the former Juniper Networks CEO because of the importance of tech, big data, and multi-platforms etc.
Dominoes is nowadays essentially a tech company more than a pizza company.
Here's the latest (as part of hotel chains moving more toward ProPar vs. RevPar); chains are looking everywhere for the incremental profit dollars and tech plays a huge role in digging up the cash.
Still too early to know what this means for the SPG members. I'm not too optimistic that most features of the SPG program will survive.
also once the programs merge and we have one reservation system, it will be very overwhelming for legacy SPG member to find a SPG hotel. for ex: In the washington DC area we have only 30 Starwood Hotels, Marriott has 159 hotels. so in 2019 scrolling through over 190 hotels just to find a room would give me a serious headache! why can't they just keep us separate
Well starguy even now when I search for a hotel in say, DC, there may be several pages of properties (listed by distance) but I'm going to ignore locations in Rosslyn, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Bethesda etc as I do now (I won't scroll that far) You can also do an advanced search by brand(s) to exclude all others....
ohhhh I see you know my area really well lol
but basically what I was trying to explain is; There will be over 6000 hotels in the new system(3 times the SPG hotels) and millennials(like me) don't want to be bombarded with an overwhelming list of hotels .
but good idea I'll just filter the search by "Sheraton, Westin, Meridien, St. Regis, W, Luxury/Tribute, Design, 4Points, Aloft, and Element" to exclude all others
I lived in Centreville, VA near Fairfax/Chantilly for 5 years
yep thats right next to Reston, VA
Don't ignore Rosslyn. There's a very nice LeMeridien there. Just a short walk to Key Bridge and Georgetown. That's were I try to stay when visiting DC.
I love that hotel. Karen at the front desk is so nice
Nice area, next to georgetown via key bridge and one block from the Blue/Orange/Silver Lines!
This merger comes at the right time, for me. Now that I have lt Plat I can book SPG without worrying about night's credits.
Just in the nick of time, too! WHEW!!!
If the new program exists Sept 2018, then the programs will still stay separate through the end of 2018 - received an email today from SPG...
It seems like the SPG Platinum Ambassador service may continue going forward, so 100 nights may be a key indicator of some status going forward...
Also, MR rollover nights for 2017 ok, but 2018 nights will expire (indicating the new program will take effect in 2019, and there may be some coming changes to rollover nights). MR status buy back ends in 2017, so if you need/want status via buy-back in 2017 - and its offered, get it! - appears it is too late though???
Seems to be in line with the Insider's thread (but relating to the SPG side): Frequently Asked Questions: Hertz, Rollover & Buy Back and Your End-of-Year Program Preview
I agree completely o0o0o0o0o0o...points! - there is no logic at all to introducing a combined programme at any other point than January 1 - too many people would be totally turned off by having their targets changed part of the way through a qualifying year. Qualifying targets in the two programmes are completely different, so any attempt to come up with an all embracing qualification regime part way through a year will adversely affect thousands of people and be a PR disaster.
And I just got the same email from Marriott about 15 minutes ago, focused on the Marriott side:
It has begun... now for the credit card decisions...
3 new brands!?? Did I get that right? They have 3 MORE coming!!! Holy.
Don't think you'll even have to think about more brands anytime soon - there are 12 new Edition hotels coming, and about 112 or so other hotels coming in the next few years. They are expanding the current brand footprint, possibly consolidating, and they've already started downsizing with Sheratons, so I don't think new brands will be on the horizon - unless they get an offer they can't refuse to purchase/merge with someone else
I want to think about it I think it's pretty bold, crazy and awesome! MAYBE they do have some whispering offers.
Arne said he was not going tell about the 3 new brands... unless Jason just pulled that number out of nowhere. Maybe it was a joke. Around min 19 or so. I know they are going to stay focused on what they currently have, Arne said so.
