Next up for us was Toledo. This is a very popular tourist destination as it is only about 1 hour from Madrid. There were plenty of tour buses about!

We stayed at the AC hotel which is not in the centre, but provides a superb view of the city. I booked a room with a view of the city. It cost a little more than the standard room.

There are plenty of things to see, but the city is compact so easy to walk around.

We took a taxi on the first day from the hotel to Place de Zocodover. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel, but they only come about once an hour.

SOme highlights of our visit:

The cathedral is excellent, a must visit. Catedral de Toledo | Santa Iglesia Catedral Primada | Toledo

We thoroughly enjoyed the El Greco exhibition at the Museo de Santa Cruz.

Museo del Greco Museo Del Greco was good, then we came to the room of apostles which was excellent.

Sephardic Museum El Transito Synagogue and Sephardic Museum Reviews - Toledo, Province of Toledo Attractions - TripAdvisor

These last two attractions were free since we visited on the first Sunday of the month.

Probably better if you can visit the city during the week, then you might avoid the huge number of tour buses.

Also on Sunday many of the attractions are only open till about 2 or 3pm.

If you like El Greco and swords then this is the city for you.

Toledo is very nice and well worth a visit.
