Say hello to your featured Insider: houstonfoodandwine!
Ryan is a born and bred Texan & native Houstonian who lives inside the inner-most of three loops that encircle Houston with his beautiful bride of 5 years and their 9-month old son. Ryan graduated from the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston and has had a passion for food, hotels, and service for the better part of his adult life. He currently works in commercial insurance compliance for a Fortune 500 company and, in his free time, he continually explores new restaurants, hotels, and wines, as well as new parts of the ever-growing city he calls home. When he and his wife are not participating in the daily grind of city life they enjoy traveling and creating new memories as a family. When time permits, you can find Ryan either enjoying staycations with his family or visiting local restaurants and wine bars to satisfy his appetite.
Interestingly, although Ryan has plenty of Italian and Sicilian in his blood, traditional Italian food ranks relatively low on his list of preferred cuisines.
A favorite destination of Ryan’s is Jackson Hole, Wyoming. From dining at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar to riding ATV’s across an unending landscape, Jackson Hole is one of the few destinations Ryan has been itching to explore further, only this time with his new family. He is especially excited about returning to Jackson Hole due to Marriott’s recent opening of the SpringHill Suites in the heart of downtown Jackson. Ryan’s second favorite destination would be the capitol of his home state. Austin is not only a few hours from Houston, but it also houses Ryan’s favorite Marriott property: the JW Marriott Austin. Both he and his wife stayed at the JW Marriott Austin while celebrating one of Ryan’s birthdays and put every onsite amenity to good use while there. The notable aspects about this property that make it his favorite in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio are the service, the dining options, and the gorgeous pool & rooftop terrace.
A dream vacation for Ryan would be what he calls a Michelin Star Circuit. Traveling to a destination (or multiple) with the intent of trying a handful of Michelin-rated restaurants is the ideal form of enjoyment and relaxation for him, especially since it would allow him to explore new hotels as well. From New York City to various destinations across Scandinavia, Ryan’s list of restaurants-to-try is continually growing, as is his love for fine dining.
