Lifetime Platinum Elite enjoying annual Titanium benefits!
I’m excited to be welcomed as a Marriott Insider. It’s only been the last 5 years or so that I fully understood the value and benefit of the rewards/award program and I have gained so much insight from the insiders who came before me and all the members who share on this forum. While I’ve been a Marriott die hard since the 90’s when I worked for a firm that installed life safety equipment in properties across the world, I didn’t become an insider until about 10 years ago. I’m a LT Platinum (free breakfast for life!) and am currently enjoying annual Titanium benefits.
My passion for travel stems from my years in the US Navy and particularly the years I was stationed in downtown London. I got to travel all over Europe and Africa fairly frugally. These days I’m happy to be able to do the same in much more comfort.
While I call New England home, I spend a great deal of time in our nation’s capital which is truly a world class city, on par with London, Paris, Rome etc., and it has many Marriott’s to choose from. The Renaissance at 999 9th Street NW is a second home for me and I enjoy being welcomed warmly each and every time I arrive. They’ve made the often tiring business travel bearable and I’m grateful for the little things they do to make my stays pleasurable. Their concierge lounge is my favorite thanks to the amazing staff. They ensure a steady stream of green tea with jasmine is available. Recently, the Ren held a BONVOY VIP party in the lounge that was truly awesome. The tenderloin and shrimp were delicious!
I love golf and hope someday to get a hole in one. I have been fortunate to attend the Master’s tournament three times. Augusta National is a magical place and a golfer’s nirvana. I also love to ski and spend winter weekends in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
My favorite destination so far:
Italy. I spent time there in the 1980’s and returned for the first time last year. It started with a 3 night stay at the delightful Grand Flora. I look forward to returning in the future to go to Florence, Tuscany and Venice where a Gritti Palace stay would be epic. Italians treat Americans well and I enjoy observing the integration of history with modern conveniences. However, before returning to Italy I’m planning a trip to England next summer. The 149th Open golf tournament is being held at Royal St George’s in Sandwich, an easy train ride from London Saint Pancras station and a bucket list stay at the Renaissance will be involved.
A dream vacation:
Hard to choose. In the US it would be a tie between California wine country and Hawaii. Outside the US it would be Bali or New Zealand. Hopefully there are many more travel years for me to figure it out. At the end of the day, any St. Regis anywhere in the world is a dream!
Thank you msannmcd for all of your contributions to the Insiders site. We look forward to many more shared adventures and program insights!
