Say hello to your new featured Insider: yogib!

I’m honoured to ascend into the select club of Featured Insiders as one of the younger members. Hardly three years ago I was clicking around the Marriott website to find smarter ways to get ahead in the Marriott Rewards program and stumbled upon this marvelous community that has played a vital role in getting me where I am now in the loyalty program.

Insider since: 5 July 2016

Marriott Rewards Status: Titanium Elite

About Me: Born and raised in the Netherlands, I made the jump to Canada in 2010 and I’m based in Montreal now where I live my lovely life (and travel) partner. I’m a self-employed worker offering technical services to the performing arts and event industries, which go from lighting design to technical direction / technical project management. Since I’ve been born, my parents took me travelling, mostly camping across Europe. Later on, I became a well-known animator in the local Montreal Couchsurfing community, up until the point where I found a new swing to hotel travel that rhymes with my travelling habits, which got to whole new extremes once I got to the bottom of Marriott Rewards.

My Interests: When I’m not working like a workaholic, I still play around with technology at home. I geek out on a variety of subjects, such as technology, history, transport, and urbanism. I’m a big fan of trying out microbrews as well as a good single-malt scotch. We’re constantly trying to have our trips incarnate these themes, including the choice for hotels whenever possible. I participate in a few internet communities on a variety of subjects (latest addition is Air Passenger Rights) and even occasionally contribute to Wikipedia.

Favorite Marriott Properties: Being a younger member of this community, I have considerable less Marriott travel under my belt. Our most amazing experiences were the London County Hall and - most recently - Lille’s Hermitage Gantois (first-time Autograph Collection left us longing for more!) These hotels both were able to offer the big “wow” all across the board during our stays. In recent years I’ve grown very fond of the Marriott Ottawa Hotel as well, as the staff is so great to us and notably the lounge staff is like extended family to us, which is essential at a “home away from home.”

Favorite Destinations: After a long day of work: my bed. ;-)

As a traveller, my favourite city is Barcelona, for the amazing architecture and art pieces that can be found everywhere (got to love Gaudí.) My favourite ‘active’ destination is Le Massif near Quebec City: skiing or snowboarding with a breath-taking view on the St-Laurence River.

Dream Destinations: We’re overdue for a tropical vacation, sipping fancy cocktails with those little umbrellas next to a pool or beach. Hawaii is on our radar and my family is talking about meeting up in the (Dutch?) Caribbean for the next Holidays. We’re also looking at going to Disney World Orlando this year. The new elite benefits at resorts will definitely become useful for those destinations. For the longer-term destinations: everything is on the table! The other Insiders definitely offer plenty of inspiration for future plans.

Meet Marriott Bonvoy

Posted by communitymanagers Feb 13, 2019

Hi Insiders!

We are happy to announce that as of today, February 13, 2019, our loyalty program is now Marriott Bonvoy.

The integration of Marriott Rewards, The Ritz Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest is now complete, with one, unified website at Marriott.com, and a new Marriot Bonvoy app to streamline your experience. There are no changes to the program itself. Please also visit www.MarriottBonvoy.com to see our new loyalty webpage.

Along with the announcement of our unified program, we wanted to let you know that Insiders will remain the same, aside from a little update to our look and name that you may have already noticed.

Please post any questions you may have about the program, and we look forward to continuing our journey together.

Happy travels,

The Community Managers

Hi Insiders,

Marriott Bonvoy — the new name for Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG — launches February 13. Get ready for a fresh perspective on our travel program.

With the launch so close, we want to make sure you have what you need to make the most of Marriott Bonvoy. Start by adding MarriottBonvoy@marriott-email.com to your safe-sender list to make sure you don’t miss any Marriott Bonvoy communications.

Here’s your checklist to get started:

• Review Category changes: This year’s category changes will take effect on March 5. The overall percentage of hotels changing categories is smaller than in the past five years. Only 5 percent of our portfolio will be affected by the annual category changes process (excluding the arrival of Category 8). Some hotels in popular destinations are moving down a category, like W Hollywood, The Naka Island, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa Phuket and Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. Pro tip: Check out the hotels moving to decide when to book.
See the Full List of Category Changes

• New Free Night Award Category 8 coming soon: Category 8 hotel redemption rates will take effect March 5. Pro tip: Explore all categories now and decide if you want to book before or after March 5 to maximize your points.

• Manage everything in one place — combine your accounts. If you haven’t already combined your Marriott Rewards and SPG accounts, do so now to add up your nights and points in one streamlined account.
Combine Your Accounts

• The Marriott app will become the Marriott Bonvoy App — download it now. On February 13, the SPG and Ritz-Carlton Rewards apps will be deactivated, and you’ll need the Marriott app to manage your account. If you don’t have the Marriott app yet, download it now.

• Get faster service — update your phone number: Add a phone number to your profile so we’ll recognize you when you call Member Support.

In the meantime, you can continue to earn and redeem at more than 6,900 hotels and resorts across our portfolio of extraordinary brands. We look forward to more rewarding adventures and experiences with you worldwide.

On August 18, 2018, we introduced one loyalty program with unified benefits under our three loyalty brands — Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG). Today we announce our new name in the final step to complete our integration: Marriott Bonvoy. It means good travel, an idea that inspires everything we do.

Marriott Bonvoy is a travel program designed to bring to life our extraordinary portfolio of global brands and more than 6,700 hotels and resorts in 129 countries and territories, while also providing endless inspiration for members to keep traveling and pursuing their passions.

Marriott Bonvoy is built on the belief that travel enriches our members and the world around them. Launching on February 13, Marriott Bonvoy replaces Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG. Soon you’ll see our new logo and branding on property, in marketing, and across digital and mobile experiences.

Marriott Bonvoy Moments and Events

Beginning on February 13, Marriott Moments, Marriott Rewards Moments and SPG Moments will be combined into Marriott Bonvoy Moments, featuring 120,000+ experiences in 1,000 destinations. Access sights and excursions where you live and where you travel, or indulge in once-a-lifetime experiences.

New Names for Two Elite Status Levels

On February 13, two new names for Elite status tiers will take effect. Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite will be the new name for Platinum Premier Elite status, for members who surpass 75 nights, and Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite will be the new name for Platinum Premier Elite with Ambassador status. This top Elite status tier recognizes members who surpass 100 nights and more than $20,000 in spend annually.

Coming Soon: A New Mobile Experience

A new mobile experience will be launched in celebration of Marriott Bonvoy. If you’re using The Ritz-Carlton Rewards or SPG app, note that those apps will be deactivated. Download the Marriott App and, on February 13, it will automatically update to become the Marriott Bonvoy App.

Hello Insiders!

We’re excited to inform you about two new features on the Marriott Rewards App:

We listened to your requests to make it easier to view and download final bills from past hotel stays. Your folio information will now appear within 72 hours after checkout in Account Activity under My Account on the iOS app. View and download all of your past folio information for one year in your app.

Also new for iOS 12 is Siri-Activated Mobile Key. Just ask Siri to unlock your guest room and tap your phone to the door. Remember to add Siri in your Settings or from the Mobile Key screen to get started. This feature is available at hotels that offer Mobile Key and the feature is tied to your stay. The Siri-activated Mobile Key will expire and be removed from your device as soon as your stay concludes. For security, the feature requires you to have a passcode on your device.

As always, don’t hesitate to rate your experience in the App Store.

Insider since: June 2, 2016

Marriott Rewards status: Platinum

About Me: Born and raised in India, I moved to US in 2010. I work in IT as a database developer.

I have been fortunate enough to find a partner who loves to travel as much as I do and we have been on some amazing trips together – Alaska, Hawaii, Cancun, England, Peru, Aruba to just name a few.

After my first Marriott stay at the Ritz in Maui I usually prefer Marriott wherever I go if the price is right.

I am a huge tennis fan and staying with Marriott has helped me watch 2 Grand Slams by spending points – the US open in NYC and Wimbledon in London (one of the toughest tickets to acquire). I have accumulated more than 1.6 million points and have spent most of them on experiences. Right now I am collecting points at a crazy pace to get to a bucket list destination next year.

I first heard about insiders in 2016 through which I learned about the platinum challenge. I have loved the site ever since. I contribute to the site whenever I can – answering questions, providing trip reports, hotel reviews etc.

Fun facts: I love cooking – I am also very keen on experimenting different kinds of food. Whenever I go to a new place, I always like to taste local beer and food. I am an adrenaline junkie who has skydived twice, rides motorcycles and has taken 4 chopper rides. I plan to do bungee jumping next.

Favorite Hotel: I don’t have a single favorite hotel but I absolutely loved the Tambo del inka Luxury Collection resort in Peru. It is one of the 2 hotels which has a private train station to get to Machu Picchu. Their service especially in the restaurant and spa was exceptional. They usually go out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful stay. I also loved the Ritz Carlton Dove mountain for their personalized service. The club room at the Ritz New Orleans is also very memorable – partly because we met Will Smith there.

Bucket-list destinations: Tanzania (taking an African safari), watching Northern lights in Iceland, Bora Bora, Maldives, doing a walkabout in the Australian Outback, Japan (especially Kyoto and Mt Fuji).   One of the hotels I definitely want to stay is the St. Regis Bora Bora – I plan to get there to celebrate my 40th birthday.

Explore Our Combined Program
Enjoy new Elite benefits
Earn points in more places
See new ways to redeem

Plus, starting now, any member with both a Rewards and SPG account can now easily combine them into one single account login and profile. All your eligible stays will earn into one account. Even better, your combined Elite nights could add up to achieving the next Elite level right now.

To combine, all you need is your login for both accounts. Combining accounts must be done by you, the member, and will not happen automatically, even if you’ve previously linked your accounts. Combine and keep your Rewards number here.

A lot has happened over the past few days, and we truly appreciate your patience. There are still a few known issues we’re working to resolve including:

For members whose accounts are still displaying incorrect Elite status, this issue should be corrected later today (August 21st).

For members whose accounts are still displaying incorrect Lifetime Elite status, we expect this issue to be resolved over the next week. However, while Lifetime Elite status may be displaying incorrectly, members’ current Elite status and benefits should be correct. As a reminder, SPG members who qualify for Lifetime Platinum Premier in 2018 will receive notice of their achievement in January 2019.

For members having issues other than those above, please contact us at https://www.marriott.com/marriott/contact.mi

We hope you enjoy all that one powerful program has to offer.

Members,

This past Saturday, new Travel Packages became available for purchase for members. At the same time, due to system capabilities, we initiated a month-long blackout on cancellations and modifications to existing Travel Package certificates. After pressure testing our new system over the weekend, we’re happy to relay that starting today, the blackout period is over.

In addition, members who purchased a Category 6, Category 8 or Tier 1-3 certificate prior to 8/18 are able to request a one-time exchange for a Travel Package one category lower. This process will cancel your current Travel Package, reissue a Travel Package one category lower and result in a refund of 30,000 points to your account. To submit a request, follow these steps:

  • Select “Packages - Deals” from the “Topic” drop-down menu
  • Submit your request

As a reminder, status.marriott.com will periodically have additional updates.

Members,

This weekend, we began the process of updating our systems to launch our new loyalty program.

At this time, we are excited to share that we have brought together all of our channels and members can now book all 6,700 hotels on Marriott.comSPG.com and corresponding apps.

Later today, we are planning to rollout Combine Accounts functionality in batches to members to ensure site stability and a seamless user experience. When you log in to your account and see the prompt, you can then manually combine your accounts to view joint activity and one point balance. Accounts can only be combined by you, the member. Even if you linked your Rewards and SPG accounts prior to this change, you still need to take the action to combine your accounts once it is available to you.

To combine your accounts, all you need is your login info for both accounts. Combine and keep your Rewards number here. Prefer to keep your new SPG number? Combine here

We are also aware of and are currently working to solve a few known issues impacting some members, particularly issues around status not displaying correctly.

As a reminder, status.marriott.com will periodically have additional updates.

8/20 Update

We are excited to announce that Account Combine functionality is now rolling out in batches to members through tomorrow. As a result, when members log in and see the prompt, they will now have the opportunity to combine their accounts.

On 8/18, our new Travel Package offering will launch along with our new loyalty program. After our loyalty programs become one, our new Travel Package award chart will go into effect and members will be able to book for packages at all 6,700 of our hotels.

If you currently have a Travel Package Certificate that’s not yet attached to a hotel reservation, you have the following options:

- If you know when you want to travel, make a new reservation or attach your certificate to an existing one prior to August 18, 2018.

- If you are still trying to plan that perfect trip, you can hold onto the certificate and will be able to add it to a reservation starting September 18, 2018.

Please note that you will not be able to modify your certificate for an existing reservation or attach it to a new one between August 18 and September 18, 2018. Please plan accordingly.

Do not hesitate to reach out with questions. We look forward to making this transition as smooth as possible.

8/18 Update

Members,

For members with existing Travel Packages (booked prior to today and not yet attached to a reservation), today we are able to share how they will convert within the newly unified program. Please see the full chart below.

No existing Travel Package certificate is losing value in terms of points and, with the new Free Night Award Chart that goes live today, 70% of our hotels either stayed at the same redemption rate threshold or moved down. As we structured the conversion chart, we considered the introduction of peak and off-peak redemption rates, which will be introduced in early 2019. This means that if you have an existing Category 9 certificate, which converts to Category 6 starting today, holders will still be able to attach the certificate to a stay when redemption rates within that category are at their highest.

Please let us know if you have any questions and we’ll do our best to answer.

Existing Travel Package category

How Travel Packages will convert starting today (8/18)

Cat 1-4 (max 30K points)

Cat 6 (30K points)

Cat 1-4 (max 30K points)

Cat 7 (35K points)

Cat 5 (max 40K points)

New loyalty benefits are on the way! As you know, our three loyalty programs will become one on August 18. We're working hard to ensure a smooth transition, and we wanted you to be aware of a few planned outages so that you can plan accordingly. These outages will impact Marriott.com, the Marriott and Ritz-Carlton mobile apps and our call centers.

  • Starting tonight you may experience temporary disruptions logging into your Rewards account or using points. These outages are scheduled during the overnight hours Eastern Time (ET). These outages will not impact SPG.com or the SPG mobile app.
  • Our systems will also be down much of August 18, starting in the early morning hours Eastern Time (ET), in an effort to launch your new program and member experience.

Thank you so much for your patience as we transition to one new program for you. For more information, visit members.marriott.com where you can explore the new program and benefits launching on August 18. Please feel free to share your feedback, and we’ll do our best to answer your questions.
